Additional Sample decibel problems (#2) for ASLP 334

The previous sample decibel problems handout and this handout are designed to give you an idea of the type of problems you might encounter on Exam 1. However, these are only examples. You need to think and try to problem solve. The main point is that you need to understand the decibel, and all of the reference systems and be able to convert between them.

  1. 47 dB SPL is equivalent to how many µPa?
  2. -14 dB SPL is equivalent to how many µPa?
  3. 45 dB IL is equivalent to how many watts/cm2?
  4. -7.5 dB IL is equivalent to how many watts/cm2?
  5. If I am presenting a 2000 Hz tone to a patient at 45 dB sl, and the level of this tone is 62.5 dB SPL, what is the patient's threshold in dB SPL and in dB HL?
